Website Migration
-
Q: What exactly does web site migration mean and what does it include?
A: If your current web hosting provider can no longer answer the requirements of your site, or when you undergo frequent network downtime, or if you are made to wait for hours for the client support team to respond to you, it might be a smart idea to swap your hosting provider, i.e. to migrate all the files for your sites along with your databases from your current provider to your new provider. At Portland Support, we realize that this can be hard & time–consuming. This is the reason why we’ll do all that for you at no cost! Our trained technical team representatives will migrate your web site content from your present hosting provider to us. Our technicians have got broad experience migrating web sites and are able to handle everything – from a normal WordPress–powered blog or Joomla™–driven site, to an extremely complex, custom–made application.
-
Q: Just how long will it take for my web site to be migrated to your platform?
A: We try to implement all web site migrations ASAP. Still, we do not have a fixed time frame for website migrations. There are certain variables that you need to take into consideration – the mere size of your website and the workload of our web site migration team, etc. We always strive to implement each migration in under 48 hours. With less sizeable sites, our staff typically manages to finish in under 24 hours.
-
Q: What data will I be asked to give to your Website Migration Department?
A: Yup. We’ll need to have the name of the web site that you’d like us to transfer. We will also need a means to log into your current web hosting account so that we can get the files associated with your site.
-
Q: My current hosting account has sensitive info inside. How can I trust you?
A: Our Privacy Policy is an indivisible part of the contract that we will have with you as a client. We are committed to safeguarding the security of the private info collected from the clients. To accomplish this, we use technical security measures to avoid the loss, the misuse, the alteration or the illegal disclosure of the information under our control. The measures include, but are not limited to: physical, electronic and administrative operations to protect and secure the info that we obtain on the web. When we ask customers to submit financial information (such as a debit card number), this info is encoded using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption method.
-
Q: Will there be any outage for my website?
A: Your site will continue to work exactly like it did before with your former web hosting provider. After we are done with the migration, your web site will be configured to work on our platform and we will ask you to preview it. If everything is functioning correctly, all you will have to do is change the name server records corresponding to your domain name. Your website will be transferred to us without any downtime whatsoever.
-
Q: Will my present hosting provider find out that I am leaving them?
A: Nope. Apart from your login credentials for the Control Panel, we don’t require anything. We will never get in touch with your web hosting provider. They won’t know anything about the migration either.
-
Q: Which web hosting platforms do you support?
A: We support all Linux–based web hosting platforms. Fundamentally, if we can obtain access to your Control Panel, we’ll be able to transfer your site. The only platforms that we do not support are closed–source site management platforms such as Wix, BaseKit, Jimdo, Website Tonight, Four Square, Mr Site, etc.
