If you want to direct a domain address that you have to a different domain or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is forwarded to. That way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site that you have created, but it will also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the traffic from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since such a record set up for the main domain renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which we offer with each and every Linux shared web hosting package, allows you to create CNAME records for every single domain name or subdomain hosted in the account with several mouse clicks. If you are not certain how to go about it, you can check out the video tutorial that is available inside the CP, read the detailed Help article on the subject, or simply contact us and we will help you 24/7, although it is unlikely you'll experience any difficulties as all it takes to set up a new CNAME record is to choose a domain/subdomain, type in the hostname that you're pointing to, and save the modification. The new record will be fully active within the hour. Using CNAME records allows you to have better control of your domains and website content and our system is simple and user-friendly enough to allow individuals with no previous experience to set up such records easily.
